To see this on your own open an excel spreadsheet type





5 in A1, 7 B1, and =A1 + B1 in C1.





C1 will return 12.





Now type 14 in A2, 15 in B2. Copy C1 and paste to C2. Note the formula in C2 now reads =A2 + B2. This is a relative reference. The cells it refers to are relative to the cell the formula resides in.
