Does it mean:
A) Catastrophic: The country dissolves into full-blown civil war. (Like it isn't already.)
B) Catastrophic: It puts the final stamp on our failed foreign policy directives--leaving the US without any future Middle Eastern influence. (This is more probable.)
C) Catastrophic: It finishes off the GOP party. (I'm crossing my fingers on this one.)
D) Catastrophic: Those 'terrorists' will somehow magically follow us home like sheep being led to slaughter. (Blinders! Blinders! Where are my GOP-issued blinders? lol)
Whenever Bush or McCain mention the word 'catastrophic' in their reference to leaving Iraq...?
Can I reply - all of the above?
It doesn't make any difference when we leave Iraq..today, tomorrow, next year or 10 years from now.
Mr. Bushes invasion of that country has ruined it. The infrastructure has been destroyed, schools, hospitals, homes, 100,00 dead Iraqis-millions of refuges who could afford to leave.
He has allowed the door to be opened for all the whackos in the world to make their way into that destroyed country to further advance their madness by suicide bombings and - now, chemical weapons - which have been brought into Iraq by the terrorists.
Those of us old enough to remember the Vietnam war recall what happened there when we finally left - thanks to Congress finally cutting of the funds. The French had been there for 20 years - they were run out on a rail. Our involvement began in 1948 with a few "military advisors" and ended in the '70's with millions of Vietnamese dead, the country in ruins, 58,000 dead, young American soldiers.
When our troops left, by the skin of their teeth, the country fell into the worst chaos imaginable. Millions were slaughtered (read the book or see the film "The Killing Fields". Many more were put into forced labor camps. All of the professionals and anyone suspected of being able to speak English were either killed on the spot or put into these camps to slowly starve to death or die from abuse.
The French couldn't do anything there, the Americans couldn't do anything there either. After 25+ years of trying, Vietnam still was a ruined country and only got worse.
The same thing will happen when we leave Iraq. The "civil war" will continue; the slaughter will increase until someone with bigger bombs, larger army takes power by force and becomes a new dictator. We could stay there until Kingdom come and it will not be any different.
I believe that Iran will come out on top. They have wanted Iraqi territory and the oilfields since the Iran/Iraq war. They have a standing army of 500,000 well-trained and equipped men and another 340,000 in reserve. They have over a thousand tanks, plenty of weapons, missles and an efficient delivery system.
Unfortunately, before anyone takes over and becomes the new "Saddam", millions are going to die.
Thanks to Mr. Bush - the "decider", the "nation builder", the "dead or alive" guy....
Reply:(A) They need to keep this war going and will do so on the premise that we can't leave until the job is done. Since the people we went there to help are attacking our troops, I'd say it's time to pack it up.
Reply:E) All of the above.
Reply:aren't they just talking about themselves? B (for the last 6 long years) C (who is voting for them)?
Reply:D; that would be real catastrophic.
Reply:It's the buzz word of the week. Carl Rove told them to use it in every sentence. It'll be another one next week.
