How to create more disk space for drive C:/????

Please read carefully guys/gals.My sister is running windows XP Service Pack 2.Before I started she only had 2% free disk space.I cleaned up drive C: and deleted alot of stuff off too.She has very,very few downloaded programs on her computer.She now has 9% free disk space.How can I increase it even more?We dont have a re-installation disc for restoring the XP OS.Also,isnt there a setting that determines how much space each file takes up?Where is it located and what should it be set on?Also,just for reference,she has 256 MB of RAM.

Well....without knowing the size the drive is supposed to be, I can't really determine if she is using an excessive amount of disk space. Also Is this drive partitioned in any way?





Aside from removing large files and programs, she is looking at buying another hard drive. They getting cheaper and cheaper now for a decent sized hard drive. She can set the new hard drive to be the secondary hard drive and store all of her documents and any music she has downloaded on her computer. Music files tend to add up....before i realized it i had over 10gb of music on my computer....and only 80gb of HDD space total.

if you want 2 know how big is the file then rightclick on it then select properties.
Reply:well space is not made by deleting file......remove extra programs from the control panel add\remove program option...also right click on the C:-%26gt;Properties click on the Disk CleanUp.. button


select the options suitably...

Reply:The amount of disk space is determined by the physical "platters" or disc inside your hard drive. There is no program or setting that will change the number of platters inside your hard drive. A 40 gig hard drive will hold 40 gig of files. Period, end of discussion.





The settings you are talking about can effect the amount of MEMORY used by your computer when running. But that is different from hard drive.





If you need to free up more space on your hard drive, the only thing you can do is to delete things you do not need off of your computer. If you have any old programs or games that you no longer or rarely) use, uninstall them. That will free up hard drive space.





Also, if you have music, pictures, etc., consider moving them to a CD or DVD instead. You will still have them, it just means you may have to put a CD into your computer before you can see that set f pictures or play those songs. Data like that is the thing that takes up most of the hard drive space on most people's PCs.





But the only way to free up space on a hard drive (beyond the 2-3% a disc cleanup might get you) is to remove programs or data from the drive.
