I'm blank & need your opinion on breastfeeding plus your reference for having that opinion, could you help me?

While someone else in Y!A may have asked a similar question, I still need to hear your opinion and please mention your reference so I can put it into my consideration too:

a) it's for the poor (budget feeding)

b) was probably best in the old days, but today formula is better (with the added minerals, calcium, DHA, etc)

c) it's still good for the colostrum only (and should be done only at the early age)

d) has no nutritional benefit after 1yr+ (as the child can drink cow's milk and eat various solid food)

e) best, even after child can eat solid (and is better done until the child self-wean)

f) gross, or weird, or difficult to fit into our daily life, or another opinion

BIG Thanks!!

I'm blank %26amp; need your opinion on breastfeeding plus your reference for having that opinion, could you help me?
I'd go with Answer E as well....

The breast is best! There are many antibodies in the breastmilk, which formula can't compare to... also, it's recommended by many organizations to breastfeed until the age of two or later... so that definitely knocks Answer D out of the park.

Oddly enough, more economically disadvantaged women chose to formula feed, which I don't understand, because breastfeeding is so inexpensive.
Reply:The answer would be "e"

It is just fact the breastfeeding is best even after solids have been introduced. There is no man made food that could beat nature.

Ok, why don't I get you in touch with somebody who can talk to you about these and a million and one other questions? contact your local NCT (National Childbirth Trust)breastfeeding counsellor. There's a link from the NCT website, and the number 0870 444 8708. this will get you in touch with your local one. She will be an experienced mum who has breastfed herself and has been trained in all ascpects of feeding and problems.

Anything you want to know will be there for you, in person.
Reply:a) Bollocks. It's for the BEST.

b) No way. Breastfeeding is not just about sustainance, it's about bonding too.

c) Again, bollocks. It's tailor made for YOUR child. And it's fresh, it's instant and there's no risk of poisoning from water contamination or stale milk.

d) Maybe not, but as I said, it's about bonding too. My daughter weaned off at about 14 months, she was too much of a busy person to hang around for boobmilk.

e) Self-weaning's the best option, but at about a year you're gonna be giving 2-3 feeds a day, tops. Morning, maybe lunch, then bedtime for a comfort feed. This is how my girl was, AND she ate solids like they were going out of fashion.

f) How can anything so natural be gross? You aren't jumping about in the street with them hanging out. It's possible to do it anywhere without people seeing you.

Also, bear in mind that kids are less likely to be overweight if they're breastfed.

Example for you: I wasn't breastfed, have always had weight and allergy problems and there's no bond at all between my mother and me. I breastfed my daughter, she's had none of the allergies and is a strong, sturdy, healthy, bright girl. And that, my friend, is the product of breastfeeding.
Reply:E/ Breast is best. I only managed for 6 weeks though unfortunately and I really miss doing it now.
Reply:Breast feeding is natural. Apart from the milk being right for your baby it is always at the correct temperature. You don't have to worry about sterilising bottles. You can feed your baby at a time it is required.

It has an extra advantage to you as the suckling has an effect on the womb muscles and gets you back to normal quickly.

The only time I would consider it not a good idea is if your nipples become really sore. Otherwise it is certainly the best.

As far as the child's age is concerned, everyone is different so up to you to decide although after one year old it not good socially.
Reply:Lets go with E.

Lol for the poor, no but it is a great way to save some money. And formula is not all what it is made out to be. It is not an exact replica of breastmilk and as far as I'm concerned it never will be.
Reply:A... it's for the humans, regardless of your economic status, yeah it became for the poor for a while, that was when the medical community convinced women their bodies were suddenly incapable of sustaining life, though for all of humanity on Earth we'd been doing it just fine. and really, in the USA at least, it seems like formula is more for the poor, we give it away for free via WIC... everyone else has to buy it.

B... formula is not better, none of the formula companies in the world will claim that. they're trying to add things to make it closer to breastmilk. there are components in breastmilk that are still unknown - how can a substitute be better?? plus a canned commercially produced product can never, NEVER produce the antibodies, the live organisms in breastmilk that change. change when mother and baby are exposed to an illness, the antibody is produced and baby is protected - baby will either not get sick, or get a much milder version than the rest of the family will... the added minerals, calcium, DHA, etc are all in breastmilk, at the correct quantities plus all the other stuf that's in there! formula has a lot of crap in it, stuff that does not belong in a human's body, yeah some people really need to use it, but really those money monger formula producers really could make it w/ less fillers and sugar and crap! http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/milk/i...

C... while breastfeeding for over a year or two is ideal, colostrum is better than nothing..."should only be done at the early age" well you cannot dictate when colostrum comes and goes... that's a hormonal thing your body does, usually lasts for the first 2-5 days, then the white milk comes in and though there is some colostrum still made for weeks, it is not as prominent.

D... breastmilk has nutritional benefit for any age. there are adults who supplement their own diets with breastmilk because of serious illnesses or immune system issues... I'm not sure where you're getting these things, but they're all WRONG!! http://www.kellymom.com/bf/bfextended/eb...

E... yes, proven and recommended by EVERY medical establishment on the planet.

F... no, no, no, seriously??? anyone who thinks that needs therapy, really it's food, it's food and a snuggle... anyone who thinks it's more than that is sick. http://www.kellymom.com/bf/criticism.htm...

101 reasons to breastfeed your child

Reply:E. No resource needed, it's common sense.
Reply:Hey, I'm a believer baby should have breast milk, I can't breastfeed so I had to express with both my girls so they got the first 2 weeks of my milk but also had formula. I don't think woman should stress about being exclusively breast as that is not always best, if the baby can't get enough milk from u, they start losing weight quite quickly plus u'll also have them crying for milk most of the time or they'll be on the breast constantly. I think its wrong that first time mums are sometimes pressured by the midwifes to breastfeed
Reply:E.

Hands down.

Not debatable.

Every form of research says E.

The majority of the world's health organizations agree with E.
Reply:e). Breast milk is very good for your baby. Formula is not the same at all. You pass down antibodies and such in your breast milk. Breastfeeding is an awesome bond. I was sad when I decided to ween because it was such a wonderful experience.
Reply:D
Reply:Hi,

A) No, its for the baby not money, you do what you have to do for your child, money is no option.

B) Breast milk has been proven to be better for babies, and build up the babies immune system, Cows milk is full of too many preservatives and fake and full of rubbish.

C) No idea what a Colostrum is!

D) Babies should stop breast feeding at 16mths and start solids to help the digestive system and routine (not sure if that answers that one!)

E) A child is thought how to wean they are not self taught

F) A working life is hard but you still put breast milk in a bottle even if you need to leave it behind and carry on with life

Sorry If I missed your point on your questions.
Reply:a.Breastfeeding is not for poor budget feeding. breastfed babies are said to be healthier and smarter. poor budget people have the same options as people with a large budget for one there is a program called wic (women infants and shildres) that allows women to obtain vouchers for formula, breastfeeding does not make you poor it makes you smarter than a bottle feeding mother how can breastfeed. My sister learned the hard way she bottle fed her son and he is in and out of surgery b/c of ear infections.

b. Any doctor will tell you breast milk is better than formula because it is natural and what is in it depends on what mommy eats, so if you are taking you prenatal vitamin's and eating healthy your milk will contain natural minerals, calcium and everything else your baby needs.

c. That's true but not for colostrum only.

d. Breastfeeding after 6 months in my opinion is too long not because of nutrition but b/c the baby will get clingy and will want mommy to keep breastfeeding him/her I gave my 6 month old half 2% milk and half water because the formula gave her direah.

e. You have to wean the baby. A baby can't wean itself from anything, as long as you keep giving a baby something it will keep taking it.

f. Breastfeeding starts the bonding peroid between mother and baby. you will be suprised at how your baby responds to you verses someoneelese when you breastfeed.

breast feeding is better because the babies who are breastfed don't get sick like formula fed babies do. My daughter didn't get her first cold until 10 months after my son was born she was 2 .
