Have you ever had a conversation with friends and had 'D%26amp;C' brought up and had a moment of confusion - was it scriptural reference or medical term?
LDS Ladies: 'D%26amp;C'?
ROFL Yes actually. There was a big push not to call the Doctrine and Covenants "D%26amp;C" years back. I always wondered if that was why but never heard.
Reply:Yeah. I think that's why missionaries are counseled to use the term, "Doctrine and Covenants" rather than "D%26amp;C"...
Actually, for those who think that a D%26amp;C procedure is only done in conjunction with a medically-induced abortion, that's not exactly accurate. It is also sometimes done when a miscarriage has happened. It is a procedure to clear out the uterus after an aborted pregnancy- whether the abortion was medically induced or spontaneous.
Reply:Hi. this term is used when there is a clot or a miscarrage or
an abortion. D%26amp;C.
D and C (dilatation and curettage) is a procedure in which the vaginal canal is held open with a speculum and the cervix is dilated with a metal rod. A curette is then passed through the cervical canal into the uterine cavity where endometrial tissue is scraped away and collected for examination.
Reply:Nope. Anytime anyone ever said D%26amp;C to me, I had no idea what they were talkinga bout. When I was first baptized, somehow no one explained that there were more scriptures than the BoM and bible. :P
And I only recently learned what a medical D%26amp;C was, and it wasn't a happy time either. :( But I haven't learned to associate the term out of context, so that's good.
Reply:Yeah occasionally- not usually though because if someone says they have to go in for a DNC unless they are going to Deseret Book, It is pretty clear what they mean. Especially if they just miscarried.
Edit**
Socrates- a D%26amp;C is also done after a miscarriage- it is not just an abortion thing.
Reply:I doubt there are many Mormon women who are aware of that procedure. Abortion is not something Mormons typically engage in. So Im quite sure they do not get confused and only think of the Doctrine and Covenants, not a suction d%26amp;c procedure.
Reply:D%26amp;C is a medical procedure
cleaning the uterus after a termination or miscarriage
it stands for Diallation and Cutterage
edit
ok seems it is an LDS term also then
Reply:Ha...funny point.
No this has never happened to me but I can understand.
To those who don't get the reference:
D%26amp;C - the medical procedure (explained very well above)
D%26amp;C - Mormon scripture that stands for Doctrine %26amp; Covenants
Reply::O wow........
Maybe it's because I'm not a girl and wouldn't think "Oh, is she talking about my religion or my curettage?"
Reply:That must indeed be a "ladies only" term cuz I haven't a clue what this refers to.......
Reply:the D%26amp;C is the Doctrine And Covenants.
The Joseph Smith writings of his prophecies and revelations, as they are currrently written.
